Los Gatos Church Throws Labor Day Bash

Grill & Chill event may be first annual

Hundreds converged on Calvary Church at 16330 Los Gatos Blvd. on Labor Day to enjoy, music, food, cars, real firefighters, and enough climbing and bouncing fun to overload any pre-teen. As planned, the inaugural Grill & Chill event had something for everyone.

The Inflatable Carnival in the gym was very popular with the older kids

Community Outreach Pastor Matt Turner was very pleased by the turnout, commenting that most of the people he spoke with were not already members of the church, according to Communications Director Carolyn Bennett.

"It definitely looks like it's going to be a success," Bennett said, surveying the happy crowd at noon.

Over 75 exotic, vintage, and unusual vehicles made for a great car show for the grown-ups

Dozens of volunteers made the event and features like the petting zoo, the chill out lawn, face painting, the inflatable carnival, and the pre-school fun festival possible. Don Leraas deserves the credit for the Classic Car Show, which put over 75 vehicles on display. Food was served by C. B. Hannegan's and there was a snack shack, a drink tent, and a sweets and treats tent. Santa Clara County Firefighters were on hand to show off Engine No. 3.

The Community Stage featured continuous entertainment from 10 to 4, including Katie Joy, the Saratoga Dance Troop, Latin Over Drive, Zumba by ISK, Dance Spectrum, Cele De, Green Academy of Irish Dance, and the Andrew West acoustic duo.

Chris Benson of C. B. Hannegan's was seen personally grilling burgers. Other "celebrity chefs" included retired Police Captain Duino Giordano.

Others spotted enjoying the day included Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Sgt. Kerry Harris, Los Gatos Unified School District Board Member Chris Miller and duelling barbecuers Duino Giordano and Chris Benson.
