Talented Irish painter Rebecca Carroll of Listowel, Ireland, has included Los Gatos on her first American tour, which includes dates at the Grande Ronde Cellar in Spokane, WA and an exhibition in New York City. The show, Path to Your Door, displays 45 of the artist's abstract oils.
Carroll will be in Los Gatos on Sunday, August 5, and her paintings will be on display at the Toll House Hotel, 140 S. Santa Cruz Ave., from 6 to 8pm, with guest speaker former San Jose Mayor Tom McEnery. There is no charge for the event.
"The essence of my work depicts nature and spirituality," Carroll explains. "The works are created spontaneously from my subconscious. I employ abstract qualitites of color, texture, and marks to create the pieces."
The Limerick Leader called Carroll "one of the most talented and respected artists working in these parts." Her paintings hang in private collections across Europe and in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand. It is not known if Carroll will be accompanied by her husband, graphic designer David Griffin. Carroll was born in Listowel, Los Gatos' sister city, and now lives in Limerick, Spokane's sister city.
Ira Spector helped McEnery, Johnny Hannegan (of C. B. Hannegan's), Ray O'Flaherty and Irish Deputy Jimmy Deenihan arrange the Los Gatos trip. Ira and his wife, Vice Mayor Barbara Spector were in Europe earlier this month when the tour was being planned.
Carroll recently created a book of poems, Sunny Spells, Scattered Showers with poet Mary Kennelly. The book, a fine art piece produced with Roland pigment-based inks on German etching paper, is available on Amazon.com from 3rd parties only.
The show takes its name from a poem by Michael Leunig, The Path, that begins: "The path to your door is the path within..."
"The emotions I encounter make me evolve and think more deeply about values and life," Carroll says. "My challenge is to create with reverence and never to neglect my gift. I feel privileged to be an artist and consider it a noble ministry."
