Mountain Lion Sighted Near Cypress Way

Joggers warned about dangerous creatures

Los Gatos Property Manager George Hopkins, of GI Hopkins & Associates, reminds us that the mountain lions for which Los Gatos is named are deadly hunters. One of his clients, near Cypress Way, spotted a mountain lion on the outside of his gated estate recently.

"Don't be fooled," Mr. Hopkins says. These cats see people and pets as food. A menstruating woman, perhaps with a child in a backpack, is at particular risk.

Hopkins recommends carrying a horn and a knife when hiking in the hills, and avoiding that time of month. A common mistake, he says, is to turn and walk away from a cat. Instead, he recommends standing tall, arms in the air, and yelling and screaming.

Mr. Hopkins can be reached at 592-9270 or through his web site.
