Los Gatos Beautification Committee volunteers recently spent a Saturday morning sprucing up town planters along Santa Cruz Avenue. The team of twelve, armed with rakes, brooms and clippers, pulled weeds, trimmed flowers, and swept up as they worked planter-by-planter along both sides of North Santa Cruz Avenue. In all, 29 planters were attended to.

“By being willing to get out and spiff up the planter boxes shows me that Beautification Committee members are willing to put sweat equity behind caring about our town,” says broom-wielding Beautification committee member Councilmember Joe Pirzynski.
“The best part,” adds new Beautification member Kathy Hewitt, “was having passers-by and shop owners come along and express their appreciation for our efforts. It was rewarding to do something tangible for the town.”

Susan Dinga, Beautification Committee chair, observed, “Some of the planters looked very nice and some needed attention. We thank the people who carefully replanted their planters for spring and encourage other planter sponsors to do so also."

The Beautification Committee clean-up team included: Rossella and Jon Derickson, Susan Dinga, Kathy Hewitt, Kaye Little, Mary Ellen Kaschub, Stephanie and Mike Mathews, Joe Pirzynski, Gary Schloh, and Rob and Nancy Walker.
The Adopt-A-Planter program was initiated two years ago with the sponsorship of a town planter by local businesses and residents. For further information on the Adopt-A-Planter program, e-mail Susan Dinga.
