Construction began Monday on the Apple Store planned for 23-25 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Apple has opened 170 stores worldwide since 2001, 34 of them in California.

There was no word on when the 5,300 square-foot store would open. Apple Stores are typically open 10-9, with shorter hours on weekends, and include a service desk known as the "Genius Bar."

The Apple Store joins The Sharper Image as the primary chain technology retailers in town. Just up the block from Apple, a new store will sell electric vehicles. Downtown Los Gatos seems in a perpetual state of change.

Excellent, another good place to spend time after Kamikazes at the Black Watch...

I am so happy that Los Gatos will get the Apple Store. We really need a computer store in Los Gatos and this is the answer. I don't like going to the Valley Fair store to get my Apple computers fixed. I also like attending the informative sessions on how to use various Apple products. This store will allow me to spend more time in Los Gatos. This is yet another reason why I love shopping in Los Gatos.

Maybe Steve Wozniak will ride his Segway down the hill from his house and straight into the Apple Store.

There's no truth to the rumor that this is going to be a combined Apple + Hair/Nail Salon Store. While you sit at the Genius Bar, you can get your hair dyed and toes painted.

Apple is a great store to add. At first I wasn't sure, but they are upscale and attract upscale clientele usually. It should be a nice infusion of revenue into the downtown area -- unfortunately it means more people will discover a town I like to keep a secret. ;-)
