Mike Wasserman as docent on History Walk 07

2nd History Walk Entertains, Educates

A Walk In and Out of the Past

Last year's successful historic walking tour of downtown Los Gatos was reprised Sunday. An extra tour was added to accomodate the demand. Most of the original performers returned and seemed even more comfortable portraying fascinating characters from the town's past.

Luke Williams brought new character Rector R. M. Chapman to life in St. Luke's garden. Rev. Chapman founded the Episcopal church here in 1882. Christine Currie and Paul Dubois joined the cast as Mrs. Mountain Charlie and James Forbes, respectively. And former mayor Sandy Decker went from playing dowager Mary Coggeshall to the challenging role of female Indian Chief Umunum. Councilmember Mike Wasserman agreed to lead a group as a docent.

Some locations were not available this year, but Juliet Panter and Janet Goodman graciously allowed the tour into their stone Craftsman house on University Ave. once again. As before, the tour started at the Tait Museum and finished at the Forbes Mill Annex, where historian Pat Dunning and other volunteers answered questions and served refreshments.

"They should do this every month," remarked Nathera Mawla, with Coldwell Banker is Los Gatos. "This is wonderful. The town needs more tourism."

Great article and photos! I have referenced this piece in my blog and put one link to the Los Gatos Observer and one to this article in particular, which will go out tomorrow at about 5am. (I made sure that none of the pics are of the same folks. I am only sorry I don't have one of Mike Wasserman. I do have one of Dan Turkus.)
