Door-to-Door Scam Suspects Located

Two young women cited for alleged scam

Two young women who allegedly went door-to-door claiming to be raising funds for the Los Gatos High School Soccer Team have been located. A suspicious Los Gatos resident called police Friday, Mar. 16, and officers found the solicitors on La Riconada Dr. at about 7:30 p.m. Tasha Mitchell, 19, of Buford, Georgia, and Amanda Wheatley of Newark, Ohio were both cited for soliciting without a permit, and their magazine subscription materials were seized as evidence.

Reports began reaching the police a week ago from people who gave the young women money and then wondered if they were on the level. Los Gatos High School Assistant Principal Scott Downs said he received three calls last week about the scam.

"Those girls don't represent our teams," Downs told Jason Sweeney of MediaNews. "We don't do door-to-door fundraising."

As of Friday, police were looking for a caucasian with red hair and a pierced nose (Mitchell) and her companion, a brunette with braided hair (Wheatley), as well as a white van with Georgia license plates.
