TechCrunch is reporting that Netflix stock is surging today because the Los Gatos-based company is about to be aquired by Amazon. MG Siegler,  a reporter for the online tech-news blog,  calls the story a “hot little rumor.”

Saturday and Sunday, one of the biggest wine events of the season comes to town as weekend two of the annual Vintners Fest, sponsored by the Santa Cruz Mountain Winegrowers’ Association, focuses on the east slope of the range. This year, 34 wineries are participating at 20 locations from Gilroy to La Honda. Much of the fun will take place in Los Gatos.

I keep asking myself “What were you thinking?” My wife casually asked me if I wanted to run the Great Race with her. What the heck, I thought. How hard could it possibly be to run four miles? What I had forgotten was that I hadn’t run a race in nearly 15 years.

Once upon a time, the Great Race was all about competition between the towns of Los Gatos and Saratoga. In order to participate, runners had to prove that they lived or worked in one of the two bergs (or neighboring Monte Sereno). This Sunday is the 32nd annual Great Race from Saratoga to Los Gatos, which is now a legendary free-for-all.

The arrest yesterday of Los Gatos contractor Channing Parker Verden came almost a year after the Summit Fire, which charred 4,270 acres and destroyed more than 130 buildings last May. But documents show that Cal Fire officials have believed all along that they know who started the fire.

Netflix, the Los Gatos-based movie-rental company, is expected to deliver good news on Wall Street today. Forbes is reporting that the DVD-by-mail pioneer, which is scheduled to report its first-quarter earnings this afternoon, will show good numbers.
