  With a public career on the Los Gatos Town Council marked by controversy and open hostility toward his fellow councilmembers, Steve Glickman now seems to want to retire from politics with as much tumult as possible. As the main financial backer of two initiatives currently being floated, Glickman has caused tempers to flare around the idyllic community. Citizens are picketing at the Farmers Market, and shouting at Town Council meetings about him and his initiatives.

  Students walked out the front doors of Los Gatos High School on Friday evening four across, girls in white and boys in black. Smiling and laughing they waved to a sea of family and friends gathered on the front lawn as they made their way to their seats. In total, 432 students were among the graduating class of 2009, and 80 of those graduated with honors. “This is a really nice group of kids,” Principal Doug Ramezane said.

• Vintners Fest Features Santa Cruz Mountain Wines

  Saturday and Sunday, one of the biggest wine events of the season comes to town as weekend two of the annual Vintners Fest, sponsored by the Santa Cruz Mountain Winegrowers’ Association, focuses on the east slope of the range. This year, 34 wineries are participating at 20 locations from Gilroy to La Honda. Much of the fun will take place in Los Gatos.

  After a stellar junior season at UC Santa Barbara in which he hit .295 and threw out 37 percent of would-be base stealers, Los Gatos’ Marty Mullins is off to Alaska this summer to play more baseball.
