Freshman Jack Penner was one of ten University of Santa Clara men’s water polo players honored by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches on the ACWPC All-Academic teams for their achievements during the 2009 season.
Penner was one of two freshmen to see regular time in the pool last year and finished with nine goals and 17 assists in 34 games played. He drew 11 ejections, had nine steals, and recorded two field blocks during the season.
“Jack is a lefty with a good shot who makes good decisions with the ball,” said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur.
The Broncos men?s water polo team was ranked No. 13 nationally last year and finished the season with a 22-12 record and second-place finish in the Western Water Polo Association behind Loyola Marymount.

At Los Gatos High School, Penner was the team most valuable player in his senior season in 2008. He was names second-team All-CCS and first-team All-De Anza League.
