The LGSGSA Magic 10C team won the Manzanita Mayhem Tournament in Prunedale.

Playing six games in two days is difficult enough, but six wins is hard to top.

Nobody did beat the LGSGSA Magic 10C team this past weekend in Prunedale as the local girls were crowned champions of the Manzanita Mayhem Tournament when they outscored their opponents 59-12 over two days of softball.

The Magic was lead by starting pitcher Kaia McCaul, who was named the championship game MVP, and closer Annnika Briski. McCaul pitched six innings on Saturday, giving up just two runs, and Briski went four innings giving up two runs. Audrey Gunsky also pitched an inning of shutout ball on Saturday.

On Sunday, it was McCaul and Briski pitching again, with McCaul going nine strong innings and Briski three. The two pitchers yielded only five runs in the three Sunday wins.

While the Magic pitching was holding opponents at bay, the hitters were putting runs on the board in impressive fashion.

In Sunday?s elimination play, the Magic opened with an 8-2 win over the South Valley Blaze. They followed that up with an 8-1 win over the North County Raptors, and then beat the Cabrillo Crushers Purple 14-2 in the championship game.

?Our girls won with class and a lot of hard work,? said coach Kael Briski. ?I’m really proud of them. From what I hear, we are the first 10C Magic team to ever win a tournament, so that’s something the girls will always have to remember.?

Overall, the Magic had solid team hitting the entire tournament, led by Serafina Johnson, Briski, McCaul and Sophie Parr. Johnson and McCaul each had stand-up triples on Saturday, with Briski contributing a leadoff triple in the championship game. Kate Bossi and Maxine Parr swung hot bats in the championship game, as did Jasmine Strydom.

It was a fitting match-up in the championship game Sunday afternoon, with both the Magic and the Crushers Purple entering the game with perfect 5-0 records. But the Crushers had no answer for McCaul?s fastball.

But it was not all strikeouts. Briski praised his team?s defense as well, singling out Johnson at first base and Maxine Parr at third base, both of whom made outstanding plays all weekend. Emily Wickham was outstanding at second base, and Annika Briski made the plays at short.

The Magic opened the tournament on Saturday with a 13-0 win over the Crushers Black. They followed that up with a 7-1 win over the Pajaro Tremblers, and closed out the day with a 9-6 win over the North County Raptors.

?The girls played enthusiastically all tournament,? said Briski. ?They never seemed to tire and always had enough gas in the tank to play hard and finish the game in what was nearly mistake-free softball all weekend.?
