They say that Los Gatos High School is a quarterback factory in football. In baseball, it must be an infielder factory.

Paul Politi, a redshirt freshman at UC Davis, is not only one of those infielders playing collegiately, he is one of two from Los Gatos currently starting on the same team. Politi plays third base and Justin Schafer shortstop for the Aggies.

Politi had a hit Tuesday in Davis’ 5-4 win over St. Mary’s to help the Aggies improve to 12-9 on the year. Politi has started all 21 games and is currently hitting .250 with six doubles, a home run and 13 RBI.

At Los Gatos High School, Politi was a three-year varsity starter, earning All-De Anza League first-team honors as a junior and senior after capturing honorable mention as a sophomore.

He was names first-team All-Central Coast Section his senior year in 2008. He helped Los Gatos to consecutive DAL championships in 2006 and 2007, including a CCS title in 2006.

Politi batted .477 with 17 doubles, 4 homers and a .590 on-base percentage as a senior. Not only did he play in the North-South all-star game, he was named MVP of the game. He was also selected to the All-Bay World Series first team.
