Robbie Comeau now helps anchor the defense for the Cal Poly lacrosse team

He was a football, basketball, and track star in high school, but Robbie Comeau is now helping anchor the defense on the No. 10 ranked Cal Poly lacrosse team.

When he was in high school, there was no lacrosse team at Los Gatos. In fact, Comeau did not ever play lacrosse until giving it a try at Cal Poly.

Now he finds himself as a defensive midfielder on a Mustangs team that is off to a 5-3 start after opening the season 4-0. The Mustangs have dropped three of their past four games, but all to nationally ranked teams.

Cal Poly dropped its first game 13-11 to No. 2-ranked Chapman University. The Mustangs then fell 14-13 in double overtime to No. 6 Florida. After beating University of San Diego 12-8, Cal Poly dropped a tough 8-7 decision to Florida State Friday night.

Comeau, an outstanding defensive back and running back in high school football, has been using his physical style of play to earn time on the field. Hitting and tackling are his strong suits in lacrosse, and he has quickly earned the “enforcer” reputation on the Mustangs.

At Los Gatos High School, Comeau had 62 tackles his senior year, intercepted two passes and blocked a field goal while earning all-league honors.
