Jeff Spagnola launches a three in win over Fremont

It’s showdown time Friday night in Palo Alto.

Both Los Gatos and Palo Alto raced through the first half of the De Anza Division boys basketball season with 5-1 records, and the two teams will square off in a pivotal game Friday at 7:45 p.m. at Palo Alto High School.

When the teams met earlier this year, it took a three-point basket at the end of the game in overtime for Los Gatos to win 62-61. Palo Alto has not lost a game since.

Los Gatos warmed up for the big game with a 74-45 crushing of Wilcox Wednesday. The Cats raced to a 23-12 first-quarter lead and 40-14 edge by halftime and cruised home.

Jeff Spagnola, who is quickly emerging as the main scoring threat for Los Gatos, led all scorers with 19 points, including three three-point field goals. Michael Hodgman also had three three-pointers on his way to 15 points.

Nick Lamson added nine points, and Dionte Cook and Luke Politi had six points each. Luke Hollander and Clayton Jubran added four points each, while Raphael Shin, Matt Calhoun and Justin Horrillo had three points each. Jared Huggins added two points.
