Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga members at one of their charitable events.
The Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga is reaching out to underprivileged mothers and their newborns today at their fifth annual Warm Hands-Giving Hearts Baby Shower for the East Valley Public Health Clinic.
League members will be donating baby blankets, layette items, clothing and toys at the Terraces of Los Gatos Retirement Community this afternoon. These items will be donated to mothers in the community who have been determined underprivileged because they are single, without health care, or have no access to work.
Were in a community that often times appears affluent, but the town still has its needs, says league member Terri Spice.
The Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga is a non-profit organization of over 100 volunteers from the Los Gatos and Saratoga communities who volunteer 15,000-some hours of community service a year, collectively. With this event, they aim to recognize mothers in need and to bring people together in the public health sector.
Like all non-profits, their biggest challenge this year is getting enough money to fund their charitable projects. The group organizes several philanthropic events throughout the year, including reading to children in classrooms, baking lunches for senior citizens and arranging clothing drives.
