Kyle Blair is now pitching for the University of San Diego Toreros
Shoulder soreness cut short Kyle Blair’s college baseball season this spring, but the Los Gatos right-hander has healed up and is back on the mound this summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Blair has pitched the past two seasons for the University of San Diego Toreros and looks to be one of the team’s top starters next spring during his junior year.
The 2007 Los Gatos High School graduate pitched in 10 games this year, starting eight. He compiled a 3-2 record in 54.2 innings with 62 strikeouts and a 3.13 ERA. Opposing batters hit just .225 against him.
As a true freshman, Blair Made 15 appearances with 12 starts. He posted an 8-4 record with a 3.86 ERA and was second on the team in strikeouts with 99. He. set a program-record for single-game strikeouts with 16 against Hawaii, and he was named to the All-WCC freshman team. He had three games in which he recorded 10 or more strikeouts.
In the Cape Cod League, Blair is pitching for the Brewster Whitecaps. His last appearance was Monday night when he helped the Whitecaps beat Chatham 9-8. Blair pitched five innings and left with a 7-2 lead. He allowed two runs in the first, but only one hit over the next four innings.
At Los Gatos High School, Blair earned four varsity letters in baseball. As a junior, he posted a record of 13-1 with an ERA of 0.16, only allowing two earned runs while striking out 144 batters in 89.2 innings of work. He recorded seven shutouts and had two no hitters, while throwing one perfect game.
Blair also hit .361 during his junior year with four home runs, six doubles and 26 RBI. He was named a 2006 AFLAC All-American as well as the De Anza League Most Valuable Player as a junior.
As a senior, Blair posted a 9-2 record with a 0.31 ERA and racked up 147 strikeouts. He was named the league MVP and was selected the San Jose High School Athlete of the Year by the Hot Stove Association. Blair was drafted in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2007 MLB draft.
Going back to his Little League days, Blair was a member of the 2001 Los Gatos Little League team that advanced to the Western Regional tournament in San Bernardino, one step from the Little League World Series.
