Danny Sullivan looks to take charge of the ASU offense
After three seasons backing up quarterback Rudy Carpenter at Arizona State University, former Los Gatos High School star Danny Sullivan emerged from spring practices as the Sun Devils’ No. 1 man heading into the 2009 Pac 10 football season.
While coach Dennis Erickson has yet to name a starter for the fall, Sullivan ran the first-team offense at both spring games. Two other quarterbacks quit the team during spring drills, leaving Sullivan, sophomore Chasen Stangel and true freshman Brock Osweiler as the only quarterbacks on the roster.
The 6-foot-4 Sullivan has played in 25 games in three seasons at ASU, completing 40 of 87 passes (45.9 pct.) for 409 yards and three touchdowns. He saw action as a true freshman in 2006, making him only the second true freshman quarterback to see action for the Sun Devils since Jake Plummer began his career in 1993.
In 2008, Sullivan played in all 12 games, serving as the holder on field goals and extra points. He saw action at quarterback in four games and completed 15 of 43 passes for 151 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He saw his most extensive action that year at No. 8 USC, going 4 for 17 for 28 yards while playing most of the second half.
As a sophomore in 2007, Sullivan played in seven games as the top reserve quarterback and completed 19 of 29 passes (65.5 pct.) for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He threw his first career touchdown, a five-yard scoring pass, in the fourth quarter of season-opening win over San Jose State.
In 2006, Sullivan was set to sit out the season as a red shirt, but injuries forced him into action. He made his Sun Devil debut against Nevada, completing two of four passes for four yards. He completed three of four passes for 15 yards against Stanford and had a season-high 27-yard completion to tight end Brent Miller against Washington State.
At Los Gatos High School, Sullivan completed 134 of 220 passes for 2,435 yards and 24 touchdowns (only six interceptions) as a senior, leading the Wildcats to the Central Coast Section Medium School championship. He was named the SCVL DeAnza Division Most Valuable Player, and he also was first-team SCVAL and second-team All-CCS.

he looked really good against texas in the holiday bowl 2 years ago… too bad his o-line is going to be subpar at asu this year…also chasen stangel is gone, so samson szaczy will be his main competition for a starting job.
