Crooner Dennis Rowland performing at Jazz on the Plazz in 2008.

Jazz on the Plazz is back this summer with hot lineups of some of the Bay Area’s best jazz performers, along with new restrictions.

The annual Wednesday-night concert series deputes its 2009 season on June 24 with the musical stylings of crooner Dennis Rowland and the Full Spectrum Jazz big band. Now in it’s seventh year, all performances take place from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Los Gatos Town Plaza in downtown Los Gatos.

However, attendees will have to abide by a new “no blanket policy” at all Los Gatos summer concerts this year. The town’s parks and public works department has banned all blankets at Jazz on the Plazz, sighting new water restrictions and the damage blankets cause to the plaza’s turf. Low-sitting lawn chairs will be permitted, but must be attended at all times and are not allowed to be set up before 3pm.

Running through August 26, other artists featured at Jazz on the Plazz this summer will include Latin Grammy Award-winning flautist Nestor Torres, guitarist Mimi Fox, singer Mark Winkler and pianist John Proulx.

The free 10-week concert series is put on by Los Gatos Music & Arts, a non-profit arts program that donates all funds to The Museums of Los Gatos and the Los Gatos Venue Teen Center.
