Following a remarkable 43-4 season record and second place finish in the Central Coast Section championships, the Los Gatos High School boys volleyball team had two players named to the All-Mercury News first team.

Seniors Justin Lewis and Trevor Rowell were named to the seven-player first team, joining Matt Houlihan of St. Francis, Marcus Mancuso of Willow Glen, Doug Rathbun of Homestead and Fred Stahl and Jeff Stapleton of Bellarmine. Los Gatos’ Jeff Barnett was named to the second team as well as named Sophomore of the Year.

Three more Wildcats — setter Beau Barron, opposite hitter Storm Slivkoff and libero Kyle MacLean — were named Honorable Mention All CCS.

Lewis was named the most valuable player of the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League after leading the Wildcats to the league title. The 6-foot-4 outside hitter for Coach Zeph Zinsman plans to play next year at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo before transferring to Cal Poly SLO.

Rowell was also a first-team all-league selection and was instrumental in helping the Wildcats rally from a two-game deficit to beat Homestead in the CCS semifinals 15-13 in the fifth game. The 6-foot-2 setter was one of six seniors to wrap up their Los Gatos High School volleyball careers this spring.
