After a stellar junior season at UC Santa Barbara in which he hit .295 and threw out 37 percent of would-be base stealers, Los Gatos’ Marty Mullins is off to Alaska this summer to play more baseball.

Mullins will play for the Peninsula Oilers in the Alaskan League before returning to Santa Barbara for his senior year.

The 2006 Los Gatos High School graduate helped the Gauchos to a 29-23 record in 2009, hitting 11 doubles, four home runs and a triple while driving in 19 runs. He also committed a team-low two errors in the field.

After graduating from high school, Mullins played at Loyola Marymount University his freshman year, and then transferred to West Valley Junior College for his sophomore season. At West Valley, Mullins batted .357 with 56 hits, 16 doubles, five home runs, 46 RBI, 15 walks, and only seven strikeouts. He helped the Vikings finish fourth in the state, the best finish in school history.

At Los Gatos High School, Mullins was a two-sport star, playing both football and baseball. He was one of several athletes that year to help the Cats win CCS championships in both those sports, with the baseball CCS championship being the first in school history.

During his senior season at Los Gatos, Mullins hit .380 with seven home runs, 28 RBI, six stolen bases, and 87 total bases (a school record). He threw out 75 percent of runners attempting to steal and was named to the All-Central Coast Section first team. As a junior, Mullins was the CCS Junior of the Year in baseball.
