Los Gatos High School
As many of you have come to learn, the members of Los Gatos High School continue to grieve and mourn the loss of 3 students who have passed away recently. The most recent was a freshmen girl who passed away on Sunday. These losses continue to be difficult for our students and staff to manage emotionally amidst the daily expectations of receiving and providing an education.
We are offering students multiple opportunities for counseling services and our Guidance staff as well as our teaching staff has been involved in much conversation with the students. We continue to provide opportunities for our students to gather, to remember, and to retell stories, as they process these tragedies.
As we have now experienced our third student death this year, the losses touch everyone on this campus. It is time to bond together and take a moment to publicly recognize these losses and also time to remember and reflect upon what is good in our lives as a community. Tomorrow at 11:20 in the morning, students will assemble on the front lawn with their 4th period classes for a brief 15 minute assembly.
This assembly will serve as an opportunity to recognize these losses and reflect on other people who greatly influence our lives presently. The assembly will last 15 minutes and then students will be released to lunch. It is our intention to acknowledge the emotion of all members of our Los Gatos High Community. The staff, Guidance, and Teen and Family Counselors will still be available, but the primary objective of this assembly is to assemble as a school community and take a moment together to consider the good in the midst of the difficult.
We thank you for your support and continue to offer our support to all of our students as they navigate these losses while balancing the expectations and requirements of school and life.
We encourage you to talk with your child about the recent tragedies and contact the school if you have any concerns or questions. As you strive to support your student, we wanted to provide some after hour numbers the students can call if they need to speak to a counselor:
24 - 7 Teen Hotline 1-888-247-7717
Grief Cares 1-408-850-6125
And, the Students to Students team created the information listed below to help students through the grieving process.
Thank you to the community for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Los Gatos High School Administration and Guidance Department

The losses are heart breaking. The uniting of families, schools, and community—inspirational.
Thanks to the The Observer for sensitive, thoughtful reporting and reminders of sources of help in coping for our entire community.
